Regeneration 1 June 2013

Is there an under-used local landmark near you? A neglected community centre? A garden or building left to fade away that should be a national treasure? Or perhaps there is an overgrown local park that is in danger of being sold off and built on?
At Regeneration we believe such public spaces should be renewed and protected for the benefit of our local communities, so that we can all enjoy the legacy left to us by previous generations and ensure that we have a community heritage to pass on to future generations.
But this is not something we can all leave to other people, or leave to chance. So how do we get people involved in protecting and renewing public spaces? Regeneration is launching a 12-month campaign to raise awareness and interest in this issue; we want to engage and inspire as many people as possible, exciting them about the possibilities in their own locality.
We are inviting you to contribute to our campaign, and would like to draw on both your local knowledge and your media expertise. You will need to focus on a local public space. More importantly, though, you will need to consider how to attract people’s interest, using local or national media, to encourage them to participate in the renewal or protection of this local space.

How to proceed:
You will need to research the specific ways in which people in your local region, area or community can be involved in this issue. As part of your research, you will need to use some of your findings to identify and justify your choice of target audience. You will then need to develop your own ideas for promoting our campaign through the local or national media.
You will need to plan and produce an integrated campaign using two of the following media forms:
• Print and Electronic Publishing, including newspapers, comics, magazines.
• Moving Image, including television, film and video.
• Web-based Technologies/New Media, including websites, podcasts and gaming.
Your teacher who is fully behind this initiative has been asked to act as an agent for Regeneration in order to collect your responses. Your teacher will set you a strict deadline which you will have to meet.
